The Bogota Mayor’s office will bring world-famous Canadian Cirque du Soleil to the Colombian capital city in June, as part of the Bogota International Cultural Fair.
Cirque du Soleil is confirmed to perform at Bogota’s main exposition center the Corferias on June 24 and 25.
The dazzling show, self-described as a mix of circus acts and street performances, will be one of the star attractions at the cultural fair, which will feature more than 100 international shows, including a performance by Argentina electro-tango group Tanguetto and a fashion parade by reknowned designer Oscar de la Renta.
Students from all of Bogota’s public schools will be invited to enjoy the fair free of charge.
“The initiative is aimed at social programs [run by] the Mayor’s office: the elderly, former gang members, Idipron and people who live on the street. The mayor wants to give the most vulnerable people in the city the opportunity to enjoy events that they never imagined that they could enjoy. A high percentage of the people in this country don’t have the possibility of travelling outside of the country and with this project we will bring the world to the people of Bogota,” said Mariana Villamizar, the event’s manager.
