Armed men murdered the mayor of Santo Domingo, an Antioquian village 40 miles northeast of Medellin, while the official was on a visit the department capital.
According to W Radio, Mayor Jaime Humberto Sanchez was killed in an attempted robbery just after he had withdrawn a large sum of cash at an ATM machine. According to Medellin newspaper El Colombiano, Sanchez was assassinated by two men on a motorcycle.
Medellin police offered a $27 thousand reward for information leading to the arrest of the killers.
