Colombian President Alvaro Uribe ordered that his country close all its borders from 4 AM to 4 PM on the day of the nation’s presidential elections scheduled for Sunday May 30. Heightened security measures will be in place throughout the voting process.
DAS director Felipe Muñoz said that 5,900 officials from the Colombian security agency will be on duty to ensure the elections go off without a hitch.
Colombian nationals in other countries who wish to cross the border to vote, will have to do so before 4 AM, Muñoz said.
The DAS director said together with state security bodies, his organization had created a map of “at risk” electoral zones.
“There are 66 municipalities whose public order is at risk and eighteen populations at risk of electoral crime. In these we will have a special presence in order to control possible crimes or fraud,” Muñoz said.
