Cartagena, Colombia’s main tourism destination on the Caribbean coast, will host two maritime festivals on May 19; the International Maritime Exhibition and Sail Cartagena 2010, local newspaper El Universal reported Thursday.

Over 100 international exhibitors, scientists, academics, entrepreneurs and industry experts will put down anchor in the Carribbean city to discuss their projects, products and services for three days ending May 21. Entry for this event is free.
The wide-ranging exhibition will feature talks about a broad scope of issues, including cruise ships, shipyards, engines, scientific research and technology.
The academic program will address the topic “Perspectives of Marine Science for the Future of the Oceans.” Speakers include Javier Valladares, president of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, and Alexander Bedritsky, president of the UN World Meteorological Organization.
There will also be cultural shows including a photo exhibition and an exhibition about Colombia’s maritime heritage.
