The government of Ecuador says it will consider the options for President Rafael Correa to meet his Colombian counterpart Alvaro Uribe.
The two heads of state of the neighboring countries have not had a formal meeting since a Colombian attack on FARC guerrillas on Ecuadorean territory in March 2008.
Both governments have moved increasingly towards the full resumption of diplomatic ties since September 2009. Correa and Uribe moved closer towards normalizing relations between their nations with an informal chat at a Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) meeting in Quito last week, but a full meeting between the two presidents so far has not happened.
According to newspaper El Espectador, a diplomat said that Ecuador is trying to set up a meeting between the two presidents on February 22 in Cancun, Mexico, where both men will be present for a regional summit.
