Colombian President Alvaro Uribe announced Monday that his government has met all of the FARC’s requirements to ensure the liberation of hostages held by the guerrilla group.
Uribe met briefly with the families of FARC hostages in Medellin Monday before attending a security council meeting.
High Commissioner for Peace Frank Pearl told Caracol Radio that he was confident the hostages would soon be released. Pearl said the government is waiting on “certain information” and that the hostages would be released 10 to 15 days after the information was received.
The FARC first announced that they would release hostages Pablo Emilio Moncayo Cabrera, soldier Jose Daniel Calvo, and the body of Julian Ernesto Guevara back in April.
The Colombian government finally broke the stalemate in late November when it authorized the International Red Cross and the Catholic Church to begin negotiations with the FARC over the long-awaited release.
