Colombia no longer have a chance of finishing first in the medal ranking of the World Roller Speed Skating Championships in Haining, China. Nevertheless, the Colombians once again showed to be one of the best speed skating nations with nine gold medals up till now.
After finishing first in the five last editions of the championships, Colombia will now likely have to settle for second as South Korea seem unbeatable. The Asians came in second in the last three years.
On Thursday, Colombia added four more gold medals to their account. Andres Felipe Muñoz won the 500m Sprint for men, and Yerci Puello won the women’s equivalent. In the Junior 20.000 Elimination finals, Colombia was equally successful with victories for Oscar Cobos and Rommy Muñoz.
Colombia have so far earned 26 medals in total, 9 gold, 12 silver and 5 bronze. South Korea won 15 gold, 15 silver and 9 bronze for a total of 39.
The gap with third-ranked Chinese Taipei (18 in total) seems comfortable enough for the Colombian delegation.
