Members of the FARC used a homeless woman as a human bomb to attack a police station in the south of Colombia, authorities say.
The woman
was sent to deliver a package at a local police station that exploded
when she arrived. The woman died and fourteen others were injured, authorities say.
According to police sources, the bomb was given to the woman by guerrillas of the FARC’s ‘Mariscal Sucre front’ who activated the bomb when the woman arrived at the target. The woman died immediately.
“The government strongly condemns and rejects this act involving civilians. It violates all human rights,” Governor Mario Viteri said.
The FARC, the ELN and other drug-trafficking gangs are very active in Samaniego, where the attack took place. It is also one of the town with the highest number of anti-personnel mines in Colombia.
