Colombia’s Supreme Court opened investigations against another two coalition congressmen for allegedly having benefited politically from deals with
paramilitary death squads.
Senators Jorge Visbal Martelo and Marco Alirio Cortes Torres, both from the governing Partido de la U, are suspected of having enjoyed ties to demobilized paramilitary organization AUC.
The two politicians were mentioned by demobilized paramilitaries as recipients of support of their organization.
Martelo and Cortes Torres are the second and third senator of the Partido de la U this week to be officially investigated for ‘parapolitics’ after the Prosecution also began procedures against Zulema Jattin.
The Prosecution also opened an investigation against Liberal Party Representative Jairo Alberto Llano Gómez this week.
More than seventy congressmen are currently under investigation for alleged ‘parapolitics’, seeking political gain through deals with illegal armed groups.
