Colombia’s Education Minister does not rule out she will be closing
colleges if suspected cases of the AH1N1 virus appear among students.
Authorities closed one school Wednesday, because a suspected swine flu
patient attended the school.
The Maria Auxiliadora college in Chia, Cundinamarca is the school of the daughter of the only confirmed AH1N1 case in Colombia. The 14-year old daughter of the male patient started showing symptoms of the flu and is being monitored by health authorities.
The students attending the school of the 14-year old girl are under surveillance for possible symptoms.
Education Minister Cecilia Mario Velez does not rule out closing more schools if students are suspected of carrying the virus.
“In case we have the feeling that one college may be contaminated we will proceed to close this school. We are not taking decisions in general,” the Minister told Caracol Radio Wednesday.
