18 people accused of involvement with fugitive drug lord ‘Don Mario’
were arrested in north east Colombia, police announced Tuesday.
National Police Commissioner Oscar Naranjo said that those arrested controlled drug trafficking routes in the Colombian departments of Antioquia and Córdoba. They will be charged with the crimes of extortion and murder.
Naranjo said the arrests were realized based on information provided by informants, who will receive between one and ten million pesos reward.
Among those detained was ‘el Puma’, the right hand man of Daniel ‘Don Mario’ Rendón Herrera. The infamous drug lord is considered to be one of the most powerful drug traffickers in the country and is wanted for extradition to the U.S. The government has offered five billion pesos reward to anyone who provides information that leads to his capture.
