Ecuador says it captured a man it suspects of being Sixto Antonio
Cabana Guillén, member of the FARC’s military command and wanted
by the United States for drug trafficking.
The man was arrested on February 20 near the Colombian border and “was carrying about 20 tanks of chemicals,” Ecuadorean police commander Jaime Hurtado said.
“Taking into account that he had a very dangerous profile, the police began an investigation. After that we have confirmed with almost 100% certainty that he is a member of the FARC,” Hurtado said.
Cabana Guillén is held in Quito while authorities wait for Colombia to compare fingerprints and confirm the suspect’s identity.
The U.S. offered a US$2.5 million reward for the capture of the guerrilla leader.
