The Colombian army has discharged the soldier Alexander Mandon, because he was believed to attract lightning, local media reported on Sunday.
The soldier has been hit 4 times since September 2012. After the first strike, he was simply glad to have survived, however it has now apparently become a regular occurrence for Mandon.
The commander of the unit was reportedly concerned by Mandon’s electric charge and decided to avoid the risk of electrocution by firing the soldier.
Mandon was sent home to Sampues, in the northern Sucre department, where it was thought he could avoid perilous lightning shocks, due to its low rainfall. Unfortunately he attracted yet another lightning bolt and was left trembling.
The soldier was taken to a doctor, but apparently burial is the only cure. Sunday morning his family buried him alive, with his head above ground in an attempt lose his electric charge by transferring it to the earth.
The first burial failed to relieve Mandon of the electric charge and he was warned that he could attract a further 100,000 volts.
Until he loses his charge, Alexander prefers to stay inside and keep away from windows.
