Two Bogota teenagers were rushed to hospital Wednesday after they were struck by lightning while playing soccer during a thunderstorm.
The two adolescents were involved in a training session in the north of the Colombian capital city when the lightning bolt struck. One, a 14-year-old, suffered a cardiac arrest and is being treated for burns in Bogota’s Simon Bolivar hospital.
The other, a 15-year-old, was moved to Clinica Reina Sofia and is in a stable condition.
Three pilgrims were killed and 110 were injured when lightning struck during a religious ceremony in San Rafael, close to Medellin, in the central Colombian department of Antioquia in May.
Colombian authorities recommended that citizens do not play soccer, particularly on open air fields, during storms.
