Colombian police and the prosecutor general’s office on Tuesday seized 46 properties owned by the incarcerated former Medellin drug kingpin known as “Onion Dealer.”
According to police, the properties are valued at $14.6M and are mostly located in the central Colombian department of Antioquia.
Alirio de Jesus Rendon, or “El Cebollero,” is serving a 14-year sentence in a maximum security prison in southwestern Colombia for money laundering and aggravated conspiracy. He got his playful moniker because his official job description was onion salesman. Unofficially however, he allegedly was behind the price fixing at the Medellin wholesale market and a top financier for the Medellin-based gangs “La Oficina de Envigado” and “La Union.”
