A pair of biographical books about the life and works of Colombian literary legend Gabriel Garcia Marquez have been heralded as some of the best books released in 2013.
The two books — “Gabo, Letters and Memories” and “Gabo Journalist” are both biographical works recounting Marquez in the prime of his career.
“Gabo, Letters and Memories,” written by fellow Colombian and a close friend of Marquez, writer Plinio Apuleyo Mendoza, is a portrayal of the usually publicity-shy Nobel Prize laureate from those who know him best.
The second, “Gabo Journalist,” is a collection of the journalistic work by Marquez, including some insight into his life and a collection of early pictures of the Nobel Prize Laureate.
The article also contains a small window into the thoughts of the writer, noting that “if I were not a writer, I would have wanted to be the man who played the piano without anyone [seeing] his face,” in a quiet bar, going on to note that he ‘had to settle with being the most famous writer in the world.’
