Colombian President Álvaro Uribe said Saturday the FARC are hypocrites
for accusing the government of human rights abuses and “then kidnap
farmers in Meta. They speak of a humanitarian deal to then plant a car
bomb in Neiva.”
The President called any peace talks initiative by the guerrillas a trap “which they have always used to simply strengthen their terrorist capacity. We can not fall into this trap,” he added.
According to the President, the FARC lost 3,500 guerrillas because they deserted the ranks and made deals with the government. The demobilization, the President says, is the peace process.
“They give an interview to Spanish magazine Cambio 16 suggesting a dialogue to discuss human rights and the next week you get a car bomb at a populated place in Neiva. No. If you want peace, you cease all violent activities and return all the abductees,” Uribe said.
