Foreign investment in Colombia rose 25,1 percent in 2008 compared to
the year before, the country’s Exchange Balance (EB) for last year shows.
According to the EB, international companies invested a total of US$8.5 billion in Colombia in 2008. The year the total investment the year before was US$6.7 billion.
The mining and oil industry benefited mostly of the investments, economic weekly Portafolio said Tuesday.
Investor confidence is one of the pillars of the policy of the administration of Colombian President Álvaro Uribe. On several occasions the President stressed the importance to keep foreign investment as high as possible in 2009 to avoid the country falls into a recession, because of the global economic crisis.
