Latin American airline Avianca-Taca and its subsidiaries carried 20.7 million passengers in 2011, representing a rise of 17.8%, or 3.1 million passengers, on the previous year.
In December 2011 the airline carried 1.9 million passengers, representing a growth of 11.9% compared to the same period the previous year.
It was a strong year for the airline, following the merger of Colombian carrier Avianca and Latin American carrier Taca in February 2010. The majority shareholder, German Efromovich, predicted a 12% growth in the Colombian airline industry in 2011.
In December 2011 AviancaTaca Holding recorded an increase of 18.1% in the number of passengers on domestic flights between Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, equal to 1.07 million passengers. Capacity, measured by available seats per mile flown, rose by 22.6%.
Total passengers on domestic flights inside Colombia, Peru and Ecuador in 2011 amounted to 11.3 million, an increase of 23.4% compared to the number of passengers carried in 2010.
In December 2011, Avianca Taca and its subsidiaries carried 823,447 passengers on international flights, which equals to 4.8% increase compared to December 2010.
