Colombian Tourism Minister, Sergio Diaz-Granados, has announced the government’s goal to bring four million foreign visitors to the country in 2014.
The government of President Juan Manuel Santos hopes to attract Spanish investment into the tourism sector, which it believes has not yet been sufficiently exploited.
According to Sergio Diaz-Granados, Colombia is an ”emerging destination” that has experienced a growth of 10% in tourism during the last decade. In 2011 more than 3 million tourists, of whom 80,000 were Spanish, visited the country.
Although 80,000 is a modest figure, Diaz-Granados said that the important thing was the growing ”trend” of Spanish tourists visiting Colombia.
Granados added that there has been a significant growth in the number of international travelers over the past few years, and he thanked Colombian entrepreneurs for their effort.
