Cali celebrates international and national art with the city’s 15th annual International Art Festival, lasting from November 3 through 14.
The event provides a wide range of artistic expression, including theater, music, visual arts, theater, dance, literature, and activities for children. Held throughout the city at various universities, cultural centers, and theaters, the event offers something from every attendee.
“To attain joy through the arts, seems to be the sense of popular traditions. To dance, talk, perform, make music, paint, eat, drink, sing…popular traditions are rich and their proposal, more than anything, is the celebration, the expression of happiness to festively affirm existence. The 2011 Art Festival looks to validate popular traditions and at the same time be a critic of them,” explains the festival’s website.
Special guests include the Cartagena-born Colombian artist Alvaro Barrios, who will have an exhibit at Casa Proartes, along side filmmaker Andres Montoya. There will also be Brazilian poet and writer Ledo Ivo, Mexican port Marco Antonio Campos, and many Colombian authors and journalists.
Invited musical groups will be coming from as far as Ireland, Israel, Argentina, Mexico, Cuba, and Venezuela. Theater leaders include Spanish playwright Jose Sanchis Sinisterra, Argentine group El Trompo Metalico, and three Colombian acting troupes.
Ticket information and full programming can be found online, including the addresses of events and background information on artists and groups.
