Some 113 families were forced to leave their home in Taraza, Antioquia
after the murder of two leaders of coca farmer protests in the region.
The families received a letter signed by the FARC, ordering them to
leave the area.
Antioquia Police commander Luis Eduardo Martínez denies the FARC is behind the displacement of the families and accuses local drug lords of pressuring the farmers.
“We are looking into the document, signed by the FARC thoroughly, but we don’t believe this group that operates in this area has anything to do with it,” Martínez said.
He accuses the local drug lords and owners of the many coca farms in the area of intimidating the population.
The area around Taraza has been the ground of constant fighting between the FARC, local drug lords and authorities. The area is filled with cocafields.
