The Colombian Government does not rule out canceling the reward for
soldiers that bring in a dead guerrilla, Interior and Justice Minister
Fabio Valencia Cossio said Friday.
Valencia Cossio said in an interview with Caracol Radio it can not be ruled out the reward led to the committing of unlawful acts.
He did however add that the financial reward was not designed to open the door for human rights violations, but to encourage success of the military forces.
Opposition party Polo Democrático Thursday pleaded to cancel the reward.
Colombia’s army is under severe scrutiny because of the alleged murder of civilians by its members. Colombia’s Attorney General office is investigating nearly a thousand possible extyrajudicial executions committed by members of the armed forces.
