The Colombian army has opened preliminary investigations into an apparently drunk Colombian army sergeant and two soldiers who crashed an official vehicle into the base of a bridge in Bogota early Friday morning.
According to testimony from those present, the vehicle hit a concrete pillar of the bridge, located on a main avenue in the city’s capital, at a speed high enough to destroy the army truck in which the uniformed men were riding.
The three soldiers from the Army’s 13th Brigade are believed by officials to have been in a state of intoxication while on duty.
They were taken to the military hospital, and the army is investigating the actions of those involved.
The incident occurred just hours after Colonel Luz Eugenio Molta was suspended for nine months after a similar accident caused by driving while intoxicated.
