Colombia’s national police on Thursday announced the break-up of a narco-trafficking ring that shipped cocaine and heroin from Colombia to the U.S. reports Radio Santa Fe.
The operation, called “Republic 60,” began a year and a half ago and captured eight people, including the head of the organization.
The drug ring worked from the departments of Valle del Cauca, Tolima, and Huila but has recently operated mostly from Bogota.
With the collaboration of airline employees, smugglers hid the drugs in books and electronic equipment such as computers which allowed them to load the substances onto planes, according to reports.
