Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg will visit Colombia on Monday and Tuesday, the U.S. State Department announced on Friday.
On Monday, Steinberg and a high-level political delegation will be in Bogota to launch the U.S.-Colombia High-Level Partnership Dialogue.
According to the State Department, “the Dialogue is designed to enhance cooperation across a broad range of issues. The two governments will formally launch discussions in three thematic working groups: human rights, democracy, and good governance; energy; and science and technology.”
While in the capital, the Deputy Secretary will meet with President Juan Manuel Santos, Vice President Angelino Garzon and Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin.
On Tuesday, the delegation plans to go to Medellin where Steinberg will give a speech before students of EAFIT University, meet with local government leaders, and review U.S.-funded development projects.
Following the visit to Colombia, the State Department delegation will go to Mexico.
