The Colombian Vice President Angelino Garzon responded to the FARC’s calls for peace talks by demanding the guerrillas take concrete steps to prove their intentions.
Garzon, communicating through Twitter, said “we need ‘acts of peace’ from the guerrillas, like the immediate liberation of hostages, no more forced conscription of children and an end to violence.”
His statement followed the release of a video in which FARC supreme leader “Alfonso Cano” called for dialogue to resolve Colombia’s conflict. Garzon’s demands referred to the three conditions the government of Juan Manuel Santos has declared as necessary for peace talks to begin.
