Colombian President Álvaro Uribe does not aspire a re-election in 2010,
Colombian newspaper El Colombiano says. According to the newspaper’s
director “a source with absolute credibility in who we trust, but whose
name we can not publish” confirmed the President’s decision.
The Uribista coalition in Congress Wednesday demanded the President would speak about about his intentions for the elections. Uribe himself has always been very vague about his aspirations for a third term and his support for the initiative to seek his re-election.
El Colombiano, on its own authority, now says the President has taken the decision not to run for the 2010 Presidency and support the coalition to seek a different candidate to unitedly present and support.
The President, currently in Switzerland for the Davos forum, has not responded to the El Colombiano statement.
