Colombia’s Prosecutor General’s Office says it is analyzing more than
183 million recordings that possibly contains evidence that the
country’s spy service was illegally wiretapping.
Official sources told Caracol Radio that the recordings that are being analyzed are not only from the DAS, but also the CTI and the National Police.
So far, the investigations led to no proof of illegal phonetaps of polical opponents of the government, Supreme Court magistrates and journalists.
The scandal already led to the resignation of four DAS officials and the promise of President Uribe to thoroughly reform the intelligence agency. The Government repeatedly denied having ordered the wiretaps.
