Colombia’s Finance Minister Oscar Ivan Zuluaga denies Colombian banks
are in trouble, after emails were sent around calling Colombians to
withdraw money from bank accounts to prevent their money disappearing
in bankruptcies.
The Minister asked Colombians to ignore the e-mails and to not forward them to family and friends.
He says the Colombian financial institutions are strong and there will be no state intervention like in Argentina in 2001, when the withdrawal of money was limited.
Colombia’s intelligence agency DAS announced it would start an investigation to the origin of the e-mails.
