A documentary on a Colombian mining town has been selected to take part in the competition for US documentaries at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
The film Marmato by director Mark Grieco deals with a town in the western state of Caldas where locals are fighting Canadian mining company Gran Colombia Gold over the rights to dig up an estimated $20 billion worth of gold hidden underneath the town.
On his Facebook page, Grieco said “we couldn’t be happier” about the nomination after spending six years in the town.
The documentary film is currently in post-production after successfully having raised $45,000 through Kickstarter to finish the project.
