Authorities in the south of Colombia arrested an alleged member of the FARC, accused to be the main medic of the guerrilla group’s Southern Bloc.

According to the authorities, the arrested Heberto Sanchez, alias “Cristian” or “Doctor Agujas,” was the personal medical assistant of “Fabian Ramirez,” the commander of the FARC’s wealthy Southern Bloc.

Sanchez was arrested Saturday in the rural community of La Cristalina on the border of the Meta and Cagueta departments.

Police General Jose Vicente Segura told newspaper El Tiempo that “this terrorist, with more than 20 years in the guerrilla organization, took part the bloody attacks against our security forces in Billar and Las Delicias. He is responsible for the management of all the medical commission of the Southern Bloc and the training of medics.”
