The FARC, Colombia’s largest left-wing guerrilla group, have allegedly killed three policeman in the northern department of La Guajira on Friday.
A group of FARC guerrillas reportedly ambushed a police patrol three kilometres away from town of Maicao. The guerrilas were allegedly lying in wait off the side of the road when they unleashed a hail of gunfire on the national police unit.
Soon after the skies were reportedly buzzing with combat helicopters in search of the guerrillas, which likely belong to the FARC’s 59th division, a guerrilla front suspected to be operating from Venezuelan territory.
The three policemen killed were named assistant superintendent Elkin Nino, Ricardo Osorio, and Edgar Quintero.
