Ecuador Foreign Minister Fander Falconi said on Monday that he expects
officials from his country and Colombia will meet this month. The
diplomatic contact would be the first since March 2008 when Ecuador
broke off all contact following a Colombian cross-border attack on a
FARC camp.
In a press conference, the Foreign Minister said the agendas both of him and his Colombian counterpart Jaime Bermudez were “complex”, but said he and his Bermudez were trying to pick a date “to explore the start of a dialogue” within a month.
“We hope the dialogues begin to be a lot more constructive about how we can improve the bilateral relation,” Falconi said.
Ecuador broke off all diplomatic contact with Colombia on March 3, 2008, two days after Colombia bombed the camp of the FARC’s #2 Raul Reyes, killing the rebel leader and 25 others.
