Colombia’s Inspector General has barred former senator Piedad Cordoba from public office for 14 years over irregular campaign funding, local media reported Monday.
Cordoba allegedly gave approximately $14 thousand to the campaign of Ricardo Montenegro, who sought a seat in the the House of Representatives, the newspaper El Espectador reported.
The Inspector General’s office ruled that because the donation was given without the approval of the Liberal Party, Cordoba had broken a law prohibiting personal contributions to political campaigns, the paper reported.
Other media reported Cordoba had been banned for 15 years from public office.
In 2010 Cordoba was excluded from holding government posts over alleged ties to the FARC.
