Hotels in Colombia’s coffee region are not only expanding their accommodations for tourists, but also developing the area as a center of culinary innovation, reported El Espectador on Thursday.
During the National Congress of Colombian Hotel Management, the region was promoted as a tourist destination for their wide variety of hotels as well as their notably creative gastronomy, which fuses traditional Colombian food with international flavors.
“The tourists who come to Quindio will encounter many pleasant surprises. They have the chance to start with an unforgettable country breakfast, continue with the famous brunch of Quindio-style empanadas, as well as cambrai empanadas filled with a sweet guava paste, fried plantains with hogao sauce, Quindio chorizo sausages with corn based arepas, stuffed potatoes, and many other options, “Cotelco Quindio described, a branch of the national association of hotels and tourism in Colombia.
Raymond Prada, consultant and conference specialist in marketing and competitive strategy, explained that gastronomical innovation should also take into account the way in which the dishes are presented and served.
For example, anyone can make “some Antioquia-style beans, but to make them unique, one can change the decoration of the plate, the particular combination of ingredients, accompaniments, and it’s presentation, among many other options open to creativity,” Prada stated.
The consultant explained that hotels and restaurants should be flexible to change, offering traditional dishes that represent the country and the region, but doing so in a way that integrates creativity and international appeal.
