Medellin will become the second city in Colombia to have a film screening in a cemetery, in the renovated Cemetery of San Lorenzo.
The movie to be displayed is “Beatriz Gonzalez ¿Por que llora si ya rie?” (“Beatriz Gonzalez, Why do you cry if I already laughed?”) directed by Diego Garcia-Moreno.
The movie has also been shown in the Central Cemetery of Bogota, which marked the first time a cinema screening took place in a cemetery in Colombia.
The idea behind the project is to retrieve urban memories and to stimulate critical thought about Colombia’s future.
Garcia-Moreno chose Medellin because of its process of urban regeneration, and says that he wishes to express his respect to the families of victims who have buried their loved ones in the cemetery.
The movie will be shown on 20 November at 19PM and is open and free to the public. Afterwards Garcia-Moreno will lead a conversation to reflect on cinema and a ritual of Colombia’s memory.
