Cartagena bay was included in a list of the most beautiful ports in the world, authorities in Cartagena announced Monday.
Cartagena’s entry into the list will be formalized at the Fifth Annual Conference of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club in Setúbal, Portugal next May, said the president of Cartagena Tourism, Maria de los Ángeles Barraza.
The Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club is an organization committed to environmental tourism with headquarters in France.
Entry into the Club requires the fulfillment of least at one of three criteria: that the bay houses an important city, has a port or has cultural heritage. Barraza emphasized that Cartagena is the only entry that fulfills all three.
Along with Hue in Vietnam and Pemba in Mozambique, Cartagena will join 33 bays already on the list, three of which are in Latin America.
Cartagena’s inclusion on the list will put it on world display and Cartagenan authorities anticipate they will need to improve the infrastructure of marinas and wharves, as well as basic recreational boating services.
