Colombia’s capital Bogota is celebrating its 474th anniversary Monday.
To commemorate the founding of the city by Spanish explorer and conquistador Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada in 1574, the city’s government has organized several events.
At 8PM, fireworks will be set off at the Torre Colpatria, the country’s highest building.
Around the same time, the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra will give a free concert at the Plaza Bolivar, the political heart of capital and the country.
Anniversary parties will be held on locations around the city.
The capital was the settlement of the indigenous Bogota people before its discovery in 1537. The Spanish conquistadores officially founded the town of Bogota one year later.
