Colombian authorities exhumed the bodies of five paramilitary victims in the central Antioquia department on Friday.
The army accompanied a prosecution unit from the “Justice and Peace” program to three graves in the municipalities of La Union, Carmen de Viboral and San Luis, where the remains of four identified people and one unidentified person were found.
Thevictims were believed to have been killed in 2003 by the paramilitary “Autodefensas Campesinas del Magdalena Medio” (ACMM), a bloc of the larger umbrella organization the AUC.
The bodies will be taken to the Technical Body of Investigation, the investigative branch of the Prosecutor General’s Office, in the city of Medellin for further analysis, reported radio station Caracol.
ACMM demobilized in February 2006 and is thought to have been both directly and indirectly responsible for the deaths of more than 4,000 people.
