Colombia’s armed forces sent reinforcements to the south-west of the country to counter a recent increase in FARC attacks in the Cauca department.
According to local police commander Carlos Rodriguez, some 300 men of the Special Forces have arrived in the department. The men and women will be assigned to protect the towns of Caloto and Jambalo, which have recently been under continuous attack by guerrillas.
Security around Cauca capital Popayan will also be reinforced, the official said.
According to the police commander, highway police have noticed an increased number of FARC guerrillas, who are traveling to the Cauca department on stolen motorbikes.
Recent attacks in Cauca left at least two soldiers and ten civilians injured.
