Passengers numbers to international destinations dropped for the first time in seven years, according to a report of the Air Transport Association of Colombia (ATAC).
The figures for the first quarter of 2009 fell by 4.7 per cent compared to the same period last year. Although 3.5 per cent more passengers flew abroad in March than in January and February. However, this was not enough to reverse the trend of contraction in demand seen in the first two month of 2009.
The rise of the figures in March is explained by incentives and promotions as well as the Easter holidays, Aires spokesperson, Alfredo Riaño, said to larepublica.com.co.
International tourism has shrunk worldwide due to the global economic crisis, World Tourism Organization reported.
