Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva said Tuesday that the
FARC better transform to a political party if the rebels want political
power.
“If the FARC want to come to power, it would be easier to become a political party and contest elections,” the Brazilian Head of State said at the end of a meeting with his Peruvian counterpart Alan Garcia.
“If this continent allows an Indian President [Evo Morales of Bolivia] and a metal worker [Lula himself] to become President, why someone from the FARC could not contest an election?” Lula rhetorically asked.
One of Lula’s main advisors Monday met with Colombian opposition senator Piedad Cordoba, who also mediates with the FARC.
