More than 170,000 Colombian truckers have parked their cars on the side
of the road and take part in a national strike. The government’s
concession to lower the fuel price was not enough to avoid a shut down
of the transport sector.
The truckers demand the government lowers the price more than the promised 400 pesos per gallon. The transported claim that the reduced price still is as high as when it was when a barrel of crude oil was on a 100 dollars. more than double the price it is now.
The truckers also claim the government has not kept the promises it made to end a 16-day strike in August 2008.
Truckers that try blocking roads to put more pressure on their demands, may be confronted by Police, who have vowed to keep the roads open.
