Members of the Liberal Party in Colombia’s Senate want jailed DMG
director David Murcia to appear before the First Committee to tell
whether he helped facilitate the referendum about the re-election of
President Álvaro Uribe.
Liberal Senator Héctor Helí Rojas, opponent of the constitutional change needed for Uribe to be re-elected, requested the national prison authority INPEC to allow Murcia to be transferred to Congress so the Senators can question him.
The referendum has come under scrutiny, because the organizers failed to clarify how the referendum was funded and allegedly a daughter company of suspected money launderer DMG helped with the logistics of the operation.
If INPEC does not allow Murcia to come to Congress, senators announced they will question him in jail.
