Venezuela deported a group of 31 Colombians previously accused of
paramilitary activity and a plot to assassinate President Hugo Chavez, local
media reported Monday.
Venezuelan authorities detained the group on the 27th January and released them last Friday 6th March after failing to substantiate the accusations.
Several of the detainees claim that they were mistreated during their detention.
“We ate virtually nothing because what they gave us was almost raw. Some of us got sick, others were beaten daily and the majority of the time we were handcuffed as if we were the worst criminals in the world”, Ubaldo Machacón told W Radio.
All of the Colombian detainees were reunited with their families.
