A bank in northern Colombia searched desperately Wednesday through 3,000 tons of landfill waste for money that ended up in the trash.
A bank employee mistakenly discarded $19,000 on Monday in the city of Bucaramanga in the northern Santander department, reported El Colombiano. The bank reported the incident on Wednesday to the Bucaramanga trash disposal company (EMAB) but so far has had no success in locating the funds.
“We gathered the waste… and loaded it in trucks, then carried it to the compactor and finally the disposal site. It’s about 900 tons per day. The bank reported two days later so it is very hard to find,” said Samuel Prada, director of EMAB.
The bank offered EMAB employees a $2,800 reward to rescue their cash from the fetid mess.
