Colombia’s Supreme Court rejected claims by the defense of former
Medellín Prosecution chief Guillermo León Valencia Cossio that he never
had a possibility to properly prepare for his trial.
Valencia Cossio, suspected of maintaining ties with drugs boss ‘Don Mario’ asked for authorities to provide him with evidence of illicit enrichment, one of the six delicts he is being prosecuted for.
However, his defense claims the hard drive that contained the evidence was encrypted and it had no way of reading it in order to prepare for the case, they said.
The court denied their claims, because in the judge’s opinion the defense had had enough time (12 days) to study the evidence and never requested any form of help.
Valencia is suspected of using his position at the Public Prosecution Office to hide information that could damage ‘Don Mario’.
