Colombia’s largest rebel group FARC handed over four of the six
hostages the rebels promised to release this week. The three policemen
and one soldier were surrendered to the humanitarian mission that was
authorized to pick up the hostages.
Because of bad weather, it is uncertain if the released hostages will be taken to Villavicencio or Bogotá.
The four members of the security forces, whose names weren’t released until this morning, have been in FARC captivity since 2007 or later and are part of the group of 24 hostages the FARC designated to be traded with 500 guerrillas who are in prisons in Colombia and the United States.
The four released hostages and two politicians the FARC promise to release Monday and Wednesday are released unilaterally as a sign of goodwill for the group ‘Colombians for Peace’ that is seeking a political solution for Colombia’s 44-year long violent conflict.
