Colombia’s former justice minister will become the country’s new ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), reported local media Monday.
At a ceremony in Colombia’s presidential palace, President Juan Manuel Santos announced lawyer and politician Andres Gonzalez Diaz would be the new ambassador to the OAS.
President Santos praised Gonzalez Diaz saying that his career and skills made him ideal for the position. “It is a position that requires a multifaceted profile,” he said, “Legal knowledge because of all the work with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, diplomatic skills, and an ability to debate and discuss on a multilateral level.”
He went on to say, “I had the opportunity to work with him not only in the cabinet when he was justice ministerustice and Minister of Commerce, but also as president and minister of defense and as governor of Cundinamarca, he was always diligent and effective.”
